FEMS - Fire Environment Mapping System - Weather and Fire Danger in One Location

The FEMS application now includes an upgraded weather dataset, a new mapping system, fire danger outputs, a read-only API, and reports generated by MS Power BI.

FEMS is the official system for applying the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS), featuring access to fire environment datasets and online analysis tools in support of wildland fire preparedness and operational decision-making. The FEMS application development and enhancements continues. Version 3.4 is now live, featuring mapping for Fire Danger, Field Sample (Live Fuels), and RAWS/ASOS weather stations. View the release notice here: FEMS 3.4 Release Notice. FEMS 3.4 includes the following functionality:

  • An interactive user interface with maps, tables and charts which displays Fire Danger Outputs, Live Fuel Moisture, and Weather information
    • These datasets include:
      • The full history of archived observations from the legacy fuel moisture database.
      • Fire Danger outputs for the Period of Record for RAWS
      • Historical, current and forecast weather observations
  • Fire Danger Outputs.
    • NFDR inputs are now catalog based.
    • Fire Danger outputs are now available through the download page with hourly or daily maximum options.
  • A Read-only API for use with external applications.
  • Power BI Reports for Fire Danger, Weather, Station Information, and Field Sample.

Additional future development will add enhanced charts and analysis capabilities along with an expanded weather network.
